Game on! Sharapova back on the market

The hunt is back on. It was announced this weekend that the worlds biggest female sportsbrand, Maria Sharapova is single yet again as she broke up with Grigor Dimitrov after a year-long relationship. It was the 23 year old Bulgarian player that confirmed the rumors to be true. According to Tennis.com, Dimitrov said the following: “We experienced wonderful moments together. I wish her much happiness and success in life and in tennis.” Sharapova has been pretty quiet, however after her vacation to Montenegro, where Dimitrov didn’t come along, there hasn’t been that much doubt as to her actual commitment and the hunt for the long-legged Russian tennis player can begin once again. Much like the rest of the tennis playing elite, Maria Sharapova is on vacation at the moment, but she will be back on the courts halfway through August where she will be competing at the Rogers Cup in Canada. By the end of August, Maria Sharapova will of course be staying in New York where she will be getting ready for US Open, along with Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Petra Kvitová, Caroline Wozniacki and the rest of the top tennis...

Serena will participate in US Open

The top female tennis player, Serena Williams, had to withdraw herself from the WTA Championship in Båstad last week after suffering an injury. This must have been quite a disappointment for the event planners as they had made a pretty big deal out of bringing Serena Williams to Sweden. Thankfully, they still had lots of media coverage as the renowned tennis player did not hesitate to display herself on social medias. Ongoing speculations It didn’t take very long before experts and connaisseurs alike started speculating whether US Open was going to suffer the same fate as the Swedish Open, which would mean doing without “The Queen of the Court”. “As much fun as we have been having the past 8 or so weeks I have to take some time to let my elbow heal,” Serena said on her Facebook profile, ”I am confident it will be ready for the rest of the summer. I need some time to recover and rehab it, but as of now I am being forced to take the next week...

Britain in Davis Cup for first time in decades

As we wait for US Open to begin the 31st of August we can already now start to look forward to a historic event for the UK as the Davis Cup semifinals are set to take place from the 18th September to the 20th. On the one hand Great Britain will be playing against Australia and on the other it will be Argentina versus Belgium. Britain has not been able to advance into the Davis Cup semifinals in 34 years, however Andy Murray’s victory over French Gilles Simon on Sunday opened up a spot for Britain into the semifinals. The last time Britain reached the semifinals was back in 1981 where they got defeated by Argentina. It has always been a hurtful experience to watch as Britain get’s eliminated from the Davis Cup time and time again. This time they made it and Britain will hopefully go on to the...

Djokovic wins in insane match

A pretty big drama was needed for Novak Djokovic to book a place in the French Open final. The Wimbledon champion had to go on a limb on the fifth set against Andy Murray and there was fire in both players from start to end. On the first 2 sets, the Serbian got away with 6-3, 6-3 but then Murray made a pretty big comeback. He won third set with 7-5 and the fourth with the same score. However, in the fifth set there wasn’t much to ponder about as Djokovic ruled the court and won 6-1. He then faced Stan Wawrinka in the finals on Sunday and lost despite his stronger position and him clearly being the...

Rainy weather puts a stop to semifinal

We must arm ourselves with patience if we are to see who will face Stanislas Wawrinka in the men’s French Open final. This is because the semifinals between Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic and British Andy Murray was cancelled because of rainy weather and storm on Friday. Djokovic is up with 2-1 in sets, it is still very exciting though. The Serbian took the first two sets with 6-3, 6-3 but then Murray returned and won third set with 7-5. He also broke the Djokovic’s serve in the fourth set however it got broken back and so now they will start at 3-3 in the fourth set. The match will be played, if all goes as planned, before the women’s finals between Serena Williams and Lucie...

Wimbledon vs French Open

There wasn’t much love in the air as Novak Djokovic beat the great Rafael Nadal in the French Open quarter finals. One would have thought that the “moral final” would have been a fair fight, where choosing a favorite would have been impossible. But for the second time in 11 years Nadal had to realise that there wouldn’t be another French Open title waiting for him this time. In 2009 he had to give up his place to Robin Söderling and then Roger Federer ended up taking the title home. We will have to wait for a Wimbledon live streaming to start in order to see Nadal’s revenge against Djokovic, if he gets past...

Seven times Wimbledon champ knocked out

It might be that Roger Federer has won Wimbledon an amazing seven times. It might also be that he was seeded in the good half of French Open. But he can’t really brag about it anymore as the elegant swiss player got knocked out from the French championship with a bang. Facing  Stan Wawrinka there was simply nothing he could do, this turned out to be quite an impressive and easy victory with three sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. Federer was otherwise leading and had strong stats before the game (16-2), besides he hadn’t beaten King Fed in a Grand Slam until...

Wimbledon champ is out

There wasn’t much love for the women champions at French Open 2015. The defending French Open champion, Maria Sharapova, got defeated and then the 2014 wimbledon champ also went “au revoir”. Petra Kvitova was, surprisingly, defeated by Timea Bacsinszky from Switzerland who is barely seeded as number 23. But she went all out and won 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 and went for the first time into the quarter finals. There she faced Alison Van Uytvanck and defeated...
