US Open 2015: Aftermath

Despite our expectations, Serena Williams did not manage to beat Roberta Vinci in the semifinals which means she did not win this edition of US Open. Serena was set as the big favorit in this match so it came as a surprise to everyone. When you compare stats between the two it’s quite obvious why it was such a chock: Vinci has lost 24 matches in 2015 whileas Serena Williams has lost 22 matches in the past 10 year! Murray breaks 34-year old curse

He might be from Scotland however it was without doubt all of Great Britain that cheered alongside Andy Murray when he qualified Britain into the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time in 34 years! French player Gilles Simon played very well against our tennis super star Andy Murray at the Queen’s Club. In fact, Murray was behind in points and under heavy pressure, in the end though he managed to pull through and won the game with 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 6-0. With that Murray and company got themselves up to 3-1 and there was no chance for French player Gilles Simon. Britain in Davis Cup for first time in decades

As we wait for US Open to begin the 31st of August we can already now start to look forward to a historic event for the UK as the Davis Cup semifinals are set to take place from the 18th September to the 20th. On the one hand Great Britain will be playing against Australia and on the other it will be Argentina versus Belgium. Britain has not been able to advance into the Davis Cup semifinals in 34 years, however Andy Murray’s victory over French Gilles Simon on Sunday opened up a spot for Britain into the semifinals. The last time Britain reached the semifinals was back in 1981 where they got defeated by Argentina.
